Modern Lowcountry Wedding | The Inn at Middleton Place | Sam + Jeremy

From the moment that I first spoke with Sam on the phone, a mere 9 weeks before his wedding, I knew that this celebration was going to be special! We kicked our wedding planning process into high gear, and, with the grooms only able to make it into town for one quick and delicious cake tasting, we rounded out their vendor dream team and orchestrated an amazing wedding!

The Plan

Sam + Jeremy had booked the Inn at Middleton Place for their same sex wedding in October, which instantly peaked my interest! Most couples see Middleton Place Plantation and fall in love with it’s stunning views of the Ashley River, romantic Spanish moss-filled oaks, and adorable sheep running around the property. The Inn ends up being a tranquil, convenient place for their guests to stay, with a great Sunday breakfast.

Sam + Jeremy looked at it a little differently. They instantly fell in love with the contrast between the Inn’s mid-century modern architecture and the Spanish moss. The ceremony location offered that same killer view of the Ashley River, with a bit more simplicity. It was the perfect place for the type of wedding that they had in mind.

One of the things that I loved most about working with these two was their attitude towards their wedding…it truly was a time to celebrate their love with close family friends in a place that felt special to them. And let me tell you, their wedding day was exactly that, an incredible celebration!

The Ceremony

Instead of having a traditional bridal party, these two decided to have some of their closest friends walk their dogs down the aisle! Not only were their three pups totally adorable, but Sam’s song choice was absolutely on point. He chose his grandmother’s favorite song, “Ascot Gavotte” from My Fair Lady. If you don’t know this song, take two seconds to go listen to it here while you imagine these dogs processing in to their ceremony…you will be rolling on the floor!

I also have to give props to their adorable ring bearer, Lawson! He was seriously the most well behaved ring bearer I’ve ever sent down the aisle, and we became fast buddies!

Sam + Jeremy decided to walk down the aisle together. They took two adjacent stairways down to the lawn, where they met each other in the middle and walked down the aisle hand in hand. It was one of the sweetest moments I’ve ever seen!

Some of their best friends were asked to read speeches during the ceremony, and they were all so touching. I adore how Sam + Jeremy stood side by side during each reading…aren’t they the cutest?!?

When Sam + Jeremy made it too the end of the aisle, something kind of amazing happened. Instead of walking off into the sunset together, they made it to the back row  and were met by a group of guests waiting to congratulate them!

There were tears, laughs, and so much love. I was completely overwhelmed by how happy their guests were for them, but even more so I was blown away by their love for all of these people who came to support them.

It was tough to tear them away so that Alex could capture some photos of them before sunset, because it was so clear that these two had their priorities straight…their overflowing happiness was undeniable, and this is simply one of those moments that I will never forget!

Also, I couldn’t help but share this photo of Middleton’s amazing fried oyster sliders with you…they were so delicious!

Alex Thornton Photography proved that she is a serious posing master and dog whisperer at this wedding. You guys, she was able to capture this incredible photo of three distracted dogs and two grooms trying to corral them and make it look like a totally calm moment. Even more impressive, she took this photo with film! So there was no snap-60-photos-in-60-seconds with a digital camera going on here. She is a serious pro!

I am obsessed with Sam + Jeremy’s portraits. Alex perfectly captured their personalities. Not to mention, they were so dapper…don’t they look straight out of Mad Men?

The Reception

Sam + Jeremy wanted to keep the reception decor clean and modern, so we filled  long tables with loads of bud vases full of white flowers and greenery, and added a little drama with tall, modern metal stands topped with tons of ferns. Their family and friends had been hunting for brass candlesticks since the planning began, and we had tons of fun mismatched candlesticks on every table!

ABCD Cakes took their cake inspiration an ran with it, creating this modern marble and copper masterpiece! I’m obsessed with the little trio of ferns!

Both sets of parents toasted the couple, and their sweet reaction is absolutely adorable!

It was so important to Sam + Jeremy that their guests have a blast, and they definitely achieved that goal! The dance floor was packed until the very last song, and when it was all over, nobody wanted to go home!

Congratulations on an amazing wedding, Sam + Jeremy! I’m so honored to have been a part of it, and can’t wait to see where your marriage journey takes you!

Lindsay, I seriously got goosebumps and tears in my eyes when I saw the photos of them meeting in the middle of the aisle, holding hands and walking down together to the altar.
The pups walking down the aisle was a bonus! I also love everything about their reception decor. I’m a huge fans of plants and that neutral palette was so dreamy.

    Wowowow!
